Sugar Skull or Día de Muertos

I did something completely out of my comfort zone and nothing like I’ve done before.
A few years ago I got a wood shaped coffin (~12″ long) in a kit. I bought skeleton stuff to use in it but never did. It sat on a shelf and collected dust as no ideas ever hit me. The other night it was like a lightening bolt, a sugar skull. Now I’ve never drawn one, painted one or researched it to even design one. I’m not into them but something about this box seemed perfect. So I Pinterested (if that’s not a word it should be) and got some ideas. One thing I found was there didn’t seem to be any rules. I drew up a face (which if you know me people and animals are not strong suits of mine). Once I drew that up I did a traditional skull design too and then ideas for the sides of the box. Next out of my comfort area step was using colored pencil on wood. Ok so you may know this isn’t a big deal but for me, it never occurred to me to use them on anything but cards and my adult coloring books (yes, I color, I’m addicted). It came out great!!! I’m stunned. I redesigned the sides and drew them on. Added the finishing dots and white Nuvo dots (Suzy, remind me I need that in black). I aged the box and all that is left is to add flowers to her hair. I have a few (cough, large) boxes of them to go through to pick the perfect ones and then she will be done. But here is a sneak peek. I’d love to hear what you think, good and bad. Did I get dot crazy? Too much hair? Seriously good and bad. Thank you for reading!!

Happy Thanksgiving – So Suzy Stamps

Hi. I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am writing today for So Suzy Stamps. Sadly this will be my last official post as part of the Design Team which ends at the end of November. I have learned so much and met some great people. I am still going to create, share on my blog and use Suzy’s Stamps.

For today’s card I did something appropriate for Thanksgiving. As I’ve said before I love fall so these November stamps are awesome. I chose the three pumpkin and single pumpkin with swirls stamps.

I stamped the images onto very vanilla paper using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in brown. I colored the images with PrismaColor pencils and stickles for a little sparkle. That was it, the whole card was very quick and easy. The triple pumpkin is on the outside and I put the single pumpkin on the inside with ‘Happy Thanksgiving’. (Now I just need to remember to mail them out!) I picked out a green ribbon for the front since I used greens in the leaves.

That’s it! Thank you for reading and I hope you will visit again. 🙂

Happiness is…..So Suzy Stamps

Hey there. I don’t know about you but I absolutely love fall. The crunch of the leaves, the crispness in the air (no humidity) and the smell of pumpkin spice. These loves go hand in hand with some of the So Suzy Stamps being released for September. This month I had to go with the fall leaves sentiment for Happiness is…

I really wanted to find a way to incorporate the new metal ATC’s that Suzy has, I’ve been anxious to play with them. I used the Stayz-On Midi colors Ganache and Orange Zest, then sponged them on using InkBlushers in a pouncing motion to kind of blend them. I did two since this was the first time using them. That way I could mess one up and still have another. On one I masked where I would put the leaves and on the other I did the whole front, not masking anything. You can see the colors better in this close up.

While it is brown and orange you can see there is still a shine to it. I really liked the way it catches the light. Once I inked it I set it aside to dry and after it dried I put the finish stuff on it so it would keep things from becoming muddled.

I used the line leaf stamps (1, 2 & 3) and different colors (all listed below) to make ‘fall’ leaves. I started with an A2 size brown card front and a piece of Everyday Enchantment striped paper on the front. Where the paper met I put cream color ribbon across and attached on the back using tear and tape adhesive. Then I attached the metal ATC using glue dots. I picked 3 leaves of different shapes and colors and again used glue dots to adhere those to the ATC. I used dimensionals on the rest to give it depth and randomly placed the leaves on the bottom. I stamped ‘Happiness is…’ in St Valentine red and used dimensionals to put it over the leaves on the ATC.

On the inside is where I pulled in the fall leaves sentiment. I also had a few leaves left over that would not fit on the front so I used them on the inside. I stuck everything down using glue dots.

Then the finished product…ta-da
