Hey which is Hi or Hello in southern. 🙂 I have lived in North Carolina all of my life and most certainly have a southern accent.
I am so excited to be starting a blog. I have to admit it is a bit intimidating. But my motivation is to apply for a design team for the first time. They are just starting their team and I believe I have a lot to offer but did not have a blog….so here I am. My goal is to keep it light and entertaining but also show whatever creations I come up with. I have been crafting for 20+ years but it was mostly acrylic painting in the beginning. Then I was introduced to scrapbooking at one of those home parties and I was hooked. Over the past couple of years I have discovered the world of mixed media and I continue to see new techniques every day that I can’t wait to try. I know I can’t be the only one that bookmarks page after page on blogs and craft company websites with every intention of going back to try whatever it may be. Uhm yeah, then I forget about that particular page because another has caught my eye and well 400 bookmarks later I just know I’ll get to each one at some point. No really, that is my plan. 🙂
A little more about me personally, I was born and raised in North Carolina and live in a tiny little place with more cows than people. I am a wife to an amazing man for 16 years, truly my soul mate. I am a mom to my 11 year old son (thinks he is going on 25) who manages to make me laugh every day. I work full-time and 3 years ago I began working from home. Honestly it took some getting used to. Yes, it sounds dreamy to not have to get up so early but I was used to the socializing and that stops abruptly. There is no making my way through cubes and offices saying hello and catching up on the latest gossip. Its me and while I often talk to myself it just isn’t the same. It took about a year and now I do prefer it but it takes an enormous amount of discipline to be at home with all my craft distractions AND still get all of my work done, some days are harder than others. It does allow me more time with my family and that is priceless. I can take my son to school, usually late (not always my fault) and I can be here when he gets home. We are fortunate to have great schools close by in case something happens where as before I was 45 min away with good traffic. Of everything I miss the drive. Not the traffic or the road irritation (not quite road rage) but the windows down and music up singing at the top of my lungs, that is what I miss. I think I read somewhere that singing for some time each day relieved stress. If that is the case I wish I could sing in my sleep.
With my crafting it’s hard to say which method or media is my favorite, it really depends on what I’m working on. I enjoy doing custom work the most. Being able to take someone’s thoughts and turn it into a tangible item that they love is an incredible feeling, I love it. I’ve done the craft shows and keeping my fingers crossed that something sold but it never quite went as well as I hoped. I enjoy painting with acrylics, scrapbooking, card making, mixed media, collages, crocheting, digital creations…the list goes on. For my scrapbooking, I started in paper and then transitioned to digital. I have so many favorite product lines for each of my many hobbies so its hard to say there is one overall favorite. If I had to pick one right now it would be Graphic 45 and Prima Marketing. With Prima I am warming up to the Julie Nutting doll stamps and i LOVE their flowers, they take my breath away.
I’ve kindof rambled through this but thank you so much if you took the time to read it all. I’m sure there are things I forgot and hopefully as time goes on you can learn more about me and I about you. Please don’t hesitate to say hello, share comments and pictures of your creations. 🙂
PS – I want to know what you want to see, I’m always up for ideas. 🙂
